Audience Comments:
"This was a joyful, courageous and inspiring piece of theatre by brothers Jake and Warren from Untied Artists. Humour, song and poignant reflection on the merits of gardening and community in relation to mental health and wellbeing - exactly what Riverside House sets out to achieve. Jake even incorporated comments by the Riverside House guys and volunteers into a really moving piece of prose and song"

"A truly spectacular piece of live theatre which was poignant, humorous and delivered with such awareness and skill. A beautiful time spent in a beautiful place."
Untied Artists presents
The Head Gardener

Brothers Jake and Warren Oldershaw have propagated a delightful theatre show that digs deep into the reasons why we could all do with a bit more horticulture in our lives.

After growing up on the rural Isle of Wight, Jake made a career out of ’showing off’ and Warren ended up with a nice (proper) job, designing and looking after gardens. But it hasn’t always been easy. As we all know - there are sunny days, and there are days when it feels like you really shouldn’t have got out of bed.

During the show they tell personal tales of why gardening is so important for mental health; design, draught and bring to life a unique and beautiful garden; share fascinating stories of different projects, plants and species; and even throw a few songs into the mix.

“Living proof that gardening is good for you” Alan Titchmarsh

"Uplifting, gentle, fascinating and encouraging - What’s not to love?” Audience feedback 2022 Tour

Audience Comments:

“The sold-out performance of Halfway Round the Bend opened the SHOUT Festival in November 2022. Funny, sad and poignant the show was enthusiastically received by a diverse and appreciative audience.”

"What a gem of a show. Fantastically funny and so much more too. Bravo!" - Rachel Thomas Executive Director Birmingham Rep

Dan Hagley: Halfway Round the Bend

An unflinchingly honest and cheerfully anarchic fusion of contemporary writing & stand-up comedy that explores what it really means to live, work and thrive with Mental Illness.

Halfway ‘Round The Bend is a solo show based on Writer/Performer Dan Hagley’s experience as a Gay man who lives with Clinical Depression & Anxiety. The show tackles complex Mental Health themes head on in a unique and very accessible way.

Utilising Dan’s down to earth humour and relaxed performance style, the show creates an open environment where the performer & the audience can explore the truth of themselves & the world in which they live by making the secret, the shameful and the unspoken accessible.
